Ampex Awarded BAMS Airborne Recorder Replacement Program for MQ-4C Triton from Northrop Grumman

Ampex Data Systems is proud to announce that we have been awarded the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) Airborne Recorder Replacement Program. This significant achievement underlines our role in data management for the Northrop Grumman-built high-altitude, long-endurance MQ-4C Triton, the pinnacle of the U.S. Navy’s maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting (ISR&T) capabilities. Built for the U.S. Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force, Triton supports a wide range of missions including maritime patrol, signals intelligence and search and rescue. These aircraft operate at higher altitude and have longer endurance than other fielded systems to provide commanders with unmatched persistent surveillance for the prediction of an adversary’s behavior, enabling better planning and enhancing joint military responses.

Under this contract, Ampex will provide the MQ-4C Triton with the new BAMS Airborne Recorder, a sophisticated system designed to handle high-volume, high-velocity data essential for real-time intelligence gathering and analysis at the edge. This integration is pivotal in bolstering Triton’s capabilities for long-endurance, high-altitude surveillance missions, ensuring robust data capture and storage under the most challenging conditions. The implementation of NSA’s Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) architecture consisting of two separate approved encryption layers within our system guarantees the highest level of security for mission-critical data.

Nick Duran, VP & GM of Ampex Data Systems, stated, “Ampex collaborating with Northrop Grumman showcases our cutting-edge capabilities and unwavering commitment to enhancing the operational effectiveness of the U.S. Navy’s ISR&T efforts. Our technology is not only designed to meet today’s demands but also anticipates the future needs of global maritime surveillance.”

This contract not only highlights Ampex’s technical expertise and strategic role in the defense sector but also showcases our broader commitment to bringing excellence to the edge. Our solutions are meticulously engineered to perform reliably under the most demanding conditions, emphasizing Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWaP-C) to ensure optimal system performance for our partners.

Ampex is excited to advance this strategic partnership, continuing to deliver excellence and innovation in support of national defense and security since 1950.
